There are seven theme-based interactive and illustrated assemblies in the SEAL resource. The assemblies include a story with adaptations to provide variety across different years.
Theme 1: New beginnings
Three creation stories or myths tell how two children witness the beginning of the world and provide the stimulus for the children to consider how to develop their class and school into a learning community. Story 1 is an extract from The Magician's Nephew by C. S. Lewis.
Theme 2: Getting on and falling out
Have you ever heard of a Friendship Token? They can't always be seen but Rani and Leroy find out how important they are.
Theme 3: Say no to bullying
Lucy was unhappy and eventually plucked up courage to tell her teacher how she was being excluded and bullied by some of the children in her class.
Theme 4: Going for goals!
Samindra is faced with the greatest challenge of his life when he has to journey through the mountains to save his family's harvest.
Theme 5: Good to be me
Mouse hates herself and feels inadequate compared to all the other animals she knows. This changes when disaster comes to the forest and she finds out it really is 'good to be me'.
Theme 6: Relationships
Max takes his most precious belonging to school and takes it into the playground, even though he has promised his mum that he will keep it safe.
Theme 7: Changes
Children explore some of the changes that they experience in their lives through three school-based scenarios.
Additional assemblies
Theme 1: New beginnings
There is no new story for the New beginnings theme as three were provided in the SEAL curriculum resource.
Theme 2: Getting on and falling out
This assembly tells how, with the help of the children and friendship tokens, an unhappy and unfriendly school can be transformed and become a lovely place to be.
Theme 3: Say no to bullying
Alex felt sad and lonely when his friend left to live in Scotland and a group of boys started to tease and bully him. This assembly explains what happened when new friends tell the teacher about what was happening.
Theme 4: Going for goals!
Laxshmi, knows what she wants from life but it is not what is expected from a girl in her village. She doesn’t give up and eventually becomes the fisherman of her dreams.
Theme 5: Good to be me
Sam doesn’t believe in himself and relies upon an imaginary friend to give him strength. One day he learns that he doesn’t need this support and it really is good to be Sam!
Theme 6: Relationships
Ali learns a difficult lesson when a new girl joins the school. Her cruel behaviour mans she falls out with Keisha her best friend. Ali realizes that she is feeling jealous and manages to save her friendship just in time.
Theme 7: Changes
Azis hates change and spends his time thinking about how good things used to be. That is until he meets Numi and he realizes that change can be good and every day is like a new adventure.
