Implementation

How can we tell what we are doing already and identify our first steps?

Some secondary schools already have a well-developed policy and practices to promote social and emotional skills, others do not. Before introducing SEAL or developing existing work, it helps to get a clear picture of the school, for example what is going well and can be learned from, built on and celebrated; and what is not going so well and needs developing.

The aim of Secondary SEAL is to help schools focus on the positives in their existing practice without feeling inadequate if they have not yet developed work in this area, to identify how this can be developed further, and to look for starting points if this area of work is new to them.
